Position Description
Full-time Systems Programmer II position in the Office of Information Technology.
Work location:
Riva Road Heritage Complex in Annapolis, MD.
Support GIS programming for implementation and maintenance of geospatial enterprise applications, support of enterprise geospatial services, design and maintenance of geospatial scripts, and support of various databases.
Strong understanding and practical experience designing and implementing SDE data models in Microsoft SQL Server SDE Geospatial environments.
Coordinate with multiple project teams to ensure design of County software and hardware are compatible and work together efficiently. Work involves coordinating with Technical Services, County managers, project managers and contractors developing systems and monitoring operational effectiveness.
Nature and Variety of WorkWork involves working with County managers, employees and contractors developing systems and monitoring operational effectiveness and contractors. Employees in this classification perform their duties independently, exercise independent judgment in designing and resolving network problems, and are given wide latitude to complete work assignments.
Employees receive general supervision from a Systems Analyst or higher-level administrator.
The work is primarily sedentary and performed in an office environment. Work does involve some walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting and bending when installing, moving, and repairing computers or peripherals. The employee may be required to lift equipment weighing fifty pounds or more. Employees may also be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Examples Of Duties- This position is designated to support GIS programming for implementation and maintenance of geospatial enterprise applications, support of enterprise geospatial services, design and maintenance of geospatial scripts, and support of various databases.
- This position coordinates with multiple project teams to ensure that the design of the County software and hardware are compatible and work together efficiently. Work involves coordinating with Technical Services, County managers, project managers and contractors developing systems and monitoring operational effectiveness.
- Design, schedule, install and upgrade hardware, software and computer equipment. Prepare all relevant documentation. Install, configure, and support major multiple operating software systems, and network management software to support network attached file servers, client work stations, printers, communication routers, CD-ROM towers/jukeboxes, and related equipment.
- Perform disaster recovery for all servers.
- Analyze, test and calibrate network equipment using state-of-the-art network and software test equipment to improve LAN and WAN network performance, and assess and correct problems.
- Run backups of network data, and archive as required. Research, evaluate and test new technologies for existing and proposed network systems.
- Recommend new enhancements as needed. Perform network security of access, usage and protection of all servers, e-mail client workstations, printers, folders, files, and documents.
- Provide technical support to external customers concerning the daily care of servers, desktop computers, network-attached printers, and multimedia network devices.
- Provide advice and guidance to staff members as required. Work with contractors, vendors, and employees concerning hardware, software, servers and mainframe systems.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Strong understanding of and practical experience designing and implementing SDE data models in Microsoft SQL Server SDE Geospatial environments.
- Considerable knowledge of a wide array of hardware and software operating systems, cabling, and power requirements.
- Considerable knowledge of network management and router configuration, personal computer equipment and data communications networks.
- Considerable knowledge of the functions and capabilities of electronic data processing equipment, and personal computer equipment.
- Skill in evaluating, analyzing, troubleshooting and resolving network connectivity, server, hardware, and software problem.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with internal and external consumers.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing presenting information through charts and graphs to display data.
