This position is posted to create a pool of candidates. Eligible Candidates will be contacted as positions become available at this school.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for facilitating cross-cultural communication through the process of converting one language into a different language to ensure meaningful and accurate communication between two parties who do not speak the same language.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

* Provides consecutive interpretation services at one-on-one or small group meetings.

* Provides simultaneous interpretation service at larger meetings or when requested at small group meetings.

* Sight translates documents upon request during meetings.

* Makes phone calls to families who speak languages other than English.

* Maintains interpreter ethics at all times.

* Researches relevant issues and technical terms as needed.

* Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

* Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.

* Other: AACPS Interpreter Training Part 1:
Basic Interpreter Skills and Ethics Part 2 (for work in special education) Interpreting in Special Education Settings required.

Experience

* None

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

* Knowledge of school system terminology.

* Outstanding customer service.

* Excellent listening, verbal, and written language skills for both English and another language.

* Ability to accurately interpret conversation and presentation.

* Knowledge of advanced grammar and usage in both languages.

* Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning.

* Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child's education experience.

* Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to response to the needs of diverse learners.

* Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.

* Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite
-Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).

Licenses and Certifications

Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.

* Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and

* Daily access to reliable transportation.

* Driving is required to conduct bona fide Board business that is within the scope of employment in this position.
