Assistant Bar Counsel III, Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland
The Office of Bar Counsel is seeking applicants for an Assistant Bar Counsel III. This attorney handles an active caseload of complaints alleging attorney misconduct or incapacity from initial docketing through final disposition. An Assistant Bar Counsel III is assigned more difficult and complex legal matters requiring little supervision as a high degree of competence has been demonstrated. Regular duties include review and analysis of complaints, directing investigations, appearing at Peer Review Panel meetings and litigating public disciplinary cases in Circuit Courts as first‑chair, appearing before the Supreme Court of Maryland and/or training of more junior attorneys.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten years of legal experience in the Maryland Bar and substantial supervisory experience. This position requires excellent legal writing skills; knowledge of Maryland civil procedure and discovery rules; the ability to present evidence and examine witnesses effectively in Circuit Court bench trials; and the ability to present complex motions before the Supreme Court of Maryland.
