About This PositionThis is entry‑level professional inspectional and investigative work. The incumbent will be assigned to the Gun Crime Unit where they perform the primary duties of documentation, evidence collection, preservation, and processing evidence related to firearm incidents. The incumbent is responsible for generating accurate, complete, and comprehensive reports required to conciliate/mediate complaints or to prepare cases for judicial action/consideration.
This Limited Term Grant Funded position under the Prince George’s County Violent Crimes Grant supports the Police Department’s Violent Crime Reduction Initiative by helping to reduce existing gaps in services and will foster collaboration and cooperation among partner agencies and stakeholders. The program addresses violent crime by targeting and arresting suspects involved in the commission of gun violence, homicides, gang/crew members and associates, and repeat offenders.
No agreement for employment will be given for a period longer than 12‑months or beyond the term of the enabling grant, whichever is less.

Examplesof Work
- Respond promptly to crime scenes involving firearms‑related incidents.
- Assist in securing the crime scene to preserve the integrity of evidence.
- Collect, document, and process physical evidence such as firearms, shell casings, bullets, and other ballistic materials.
- Utilize specialized equipment to recover latent fingerprints, DNA, and other trace evidence.
- Photograph and sketch crime scenes accurately to document the location and condition of evidence.
- Prepare detailed reports on evidence collected and ensure proper chain of custody.
- Work closely with detectives, forensic specialists, and other members of the Gun Crime Unit.
- Communicate findings and provide support during investigations and court proceedings.
- Label, package, and transport evidence properly to the appropriate storage or forensic analysis facility.
- Maintain meticulous records of evidence handling and storage procedures.
- Adhere to all departmental protocols, legal standards, and grant requirements.
- Stay updated on the latest evidence collection techniques and forensic technologies.
- Bachelor's Degree in programs involving investigative and social relations skills such as criminology, law enforcement, business, or public administration, one of the social sciences or related fields.
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications- Evidence collection, processing and or law enforcement experience.
