Position Overview

Full‑Time, Permanent, Safety‑Sensitive Police Officer – Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Signing bonus:  10,000 (payable as:  1,000 upon hire;  4,000 upon successful completion of the Police Academy;  5,000 upon successful completion of the probationary period).

Responsibilities
  • Patrol and respond to a variety of criminal activities (homicides, sexual assaults, robberies, property crimes, domestic violence, vice and narcotics, juvenile crimes).
  • Perform overt and covert observation of people and places day and night, in all weather conditions.
  • Respond to land or water accident scenes, provide rescue functions, administer first aid, direct traffic.
  • Subdue and arrest offenders, using minimum force necessary.
  • Conduct physical agility tests, write reports, and maintain case files.
  • Perform administrative duties including court testimony and preparation of narrative reports.
  • Operate motor vehicles and police‑issued equipment.
  • Report and communicate via police radio.
  • Engage with citizens, interview occupants at homes, businesses, or street locations.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Learn and apply police and law‑enforcement principles, methods, and equipment.
  • Work under adverse, dangerous, and unpleasant conditions day and night.
  • Evaluate and respond to situations professionally and with diffuse techniques.
  • Operate motor vehicles and police equipment after training.
  • Interpret and follow rules, orders, regulations, written and oral instructions.
  • Maintain effective work relationships with superiors, colleagues, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High‑school diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of recruit training, probationary period, and required background investigations.
  • Valid non‑commercial Class C motor‑vehicle operator’s license.
  • 21 years of age by October 13, 2027 (if not already 21).
  • U.S. citizenship.
Additional Requirements
  • Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and alcohol testing due to safety‑sensitive status.
  • Medical and psychological evaluation.
Selection Process
  • Applicant card and preliminary screening through an online entry‑level police officer exam and physical agility test.
  • Conditional offer requires polygraph, psychological evaluation, and comprehensive medical examination.
  • Testing periods:
    Entry‑level exam May 29 – June 12 2026;
    Physical agility test June 13 or June 20 2026 at Charles

    B. Butch Troyer Training Center.
