Position Objective
Under the direction and supervision of the Lead Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner (APP), the Cardiac Surgery APP will perform all required clinical duties, including patient evaluation and management in the preoperative, postoperative, and outpatient settings. The role also involves performing ICU bedside procedures (e.g., arterial line and central line insertion), endovascular vein harvesting, and first assisting cardiac surgical procedures (e.g., CABG, valve surgery, aorta surgery).
EssentialJob Duties
- Works collaboratively with clinical teams in managing cardiac surgery patients across pre-operative, peri-operative, post-operative, and outpatient environments.
- Collects data pertinent to patient health, interprets diagnostic tests and procedures, and performs minor surgical procedures such as vein harvesting.
- Formulates a treatment plan for cardiac problems within scope of practice, implements therapeutic interventions, and exercises judgment on issues requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising cardiac surgeon or other healthcare professionals.
- Compares and contrasts clinical findings, distinguishing normal from abnormal variations to formulate a diagnosis.
- Identifies assessment, diagnostic strategies, and therapeutic interventions that reflect current evidence, including data, research, literature, and expert clinical knowledge; collaborates with physicians as needed.
- Provides direct patient care, manages complex patients, and promotes patient engagement by explaining treatment plans and addressing potential obstacles.
- Participates in quality and patient satisfaction review processes, incorporating feedback into improvement plans and associated forums; uses quality data to enhance care delivery effectiveness.
- Uses current healthcare research findings and other evidence to expand clinical knowledge, enhance role performance, and increase understanding of professional issues.
- Participates in group call duties, including night and weekend coverage.
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant School or an accredited school of nursing as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
- Six (6) years of related cardiac surgery clinical experience as a PA or ACNP.
- Current license as a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
