Position Objective
Contributes to the provision of high‑quality, cost‑effective health care through the direct care of patients and by collaborating with other members of the health care team. Understands self‑motivation in performing basic nursing care and participates in the team nursing concept, completing tasks as delegated by the assigned nurse. May be trained to insert IVs on certain shifts/units; validation of training and skill will be documented upon successful completion.
EssentialJob Duties
- Provides direct care to patients with special attention to personal hygiene in daily morning and bedtime care and comfort, initiating and maintaining all types of safety measures and comfort care.
- Assists with patient admission by greeting, performing initial weight measurement, vital signs, disrobing as necessary, and orienting patients to their room and equipment.
- Prioritizes patient discharge by assisting with dressing, gathering belongings, and transporting to the lobby if necessary; removes equipment and supplies for environmental staff cleaning.
- Participates in patient care by recording vital signs, intake and output, other data collection, and obtaining specimens as requested using approved procedures; assists patients with mobilization and positioning as ordered by physician or unit protocol.
- Recognizes and reports pain, patient complaints, or obvious changes in patient condition to the assigned nurse.
- Participates in the orientation of new staff and acts as a mentor when necessary and requested.
- Transports medications during usual patient transport, maintaining medication security and ensuring delivery to authorized individuals per AAMC policy.
- Maintains adequate levels of supplies and equipment on the unit.
- Transports patients in accordance with established safety policies.
- Processes written medical staff orders per policy and procedure, communicating STAT or urgent orders to the care provider.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Preferred:
One year of experience as a CNA in an acute care setting - For bilingual/multilingual interpreter roles: certification in Medical Interpretation is required
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- American Heart Association Health Care Provider BLS

Physical DemandsHeavy work:
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. The physical demands and work environment described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.
