Promotes the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective healthcare through the provision of expert clinical staff education and professional development. Collaborates with leadership, the clinical education team, and clinical staff in the planning and implementation of organizational and departmental goals. Fosters a climate of innovation through role-modeling, consultation, research, and the facilitation of learning within Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Neonatal Intensive Care, and Pediatric departments.

Provides expertise and support to nurses caring for patients at the bedside. Demonstrates expert clinical knowledge and skill in maternity and newborn nursing. Models expert practice for peers, interprofessional team members, healthcare consumers, and learners. Collaborates with department and unit directors, interprofessional clinical leaders, clinical educators, and staff to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate processes, clinical education, and staff performance in support of the organizational annual operating plan and departmental goals.

Assists in the development of ongoing competencies for clinical staff. Promotes evidence-based practice and best-practice standards by prioritizing practice competency gaps, new skill requirements, changes in processes and procedures, and high-risk or problematic aspects of the clinical role identified through quality and process improvement data. Recommends, implements, and supports practice changes to enhance clinical performance and improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Promotes and supports staff development by offering a variety of learning opportunities designed for individuals at different stages of the Novice to Expert continuum. Evaluates educational programs for effectiveness, quality, and cost-efficiency. Pursues ongoing professional development to maintain expertise in nursing education. Helps drive practice changes through collaborative partnerships. Provides professional support to internal and external customers during the implementation of new products and change initiatives.

Scans the environment for trends and issues requiring change and collaborates with stakeholders to develop, implement, and sustain appropriate changes. Participates in Women's and Children's Services-specific and hospital-wide quality improvement activities and actively participates in the Clinical Education Council. Promotes the use of best practices and evidence-based care and uses quality and process improvement data to guide practice changes. Disseminates research findings through educational programs, courses, and other activities.

Promotes, encourages, facilitates, conducts, and participates in research, evidence-based practice (EBP), and quality improvement (QI) activities. Leads the coordination of MIEMSS designations and ensures regulatory readiness.

Master's degree in Nursing required. Doctoral degree, DNP or PhD, preferred. Five years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a Level III maternity and newborn setting required. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Maryland Board of Nursing. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider ACLS certification preferred. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification. Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification for Labor and Delivery within six months of hire.

S.T.A.B.L.E. Program certification for neonatal stabilization within six months of hire. Clinical Nurse Specialist board certification. All requirements established by the Maryland Board of Nursing to practice as a Clinical Nurse Specialist must be met. Maintains membership in a professional organization. Adheres to MMC credentialing requirements as stated in the nursing bylaws.

Pay Range $90,000 — $130,000 USD
