Invasive Fishes Program Biologist I

The main purpose of this position is to carry out assigned duties under the direction of the Invasive Fishes Program manager that pertain to the management of invasive fishes across Maryland's tidal waters and freshwater habitats (e.g., rivers and impoundment). Duties will include, but are not limited to, planning, coordinating, leading, and participating in research and monitoring efforts for Northern snakehead, blue catfish, flathead catfish, and other invasive fishes (e.g., eDNA monitoring, fish telemetry, high-reward tagging projects, backpack and boat electrofishing surveys);

planning and coordinating a beneficial use project at Conowingo Dam where Northern snakehead and other invasive fishes are harvested and donated for public consumption or used for scientific research; developing, coordinating, organizing, and participating in events with the public that promote the removals of Northern snakehead, blue catfish, flathead catfish, and other invasive fishes; assists with report and document preparation;

and administrative, organizational, and other duties in support of the Invasive Fishes Program.

Experience:

Four years of professional experience conducting research and analysis in the fields of biology, biochemistry, environmental science, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management or zoology.

Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental aquaculture, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology or physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology, or a natural resources management related field of study from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
• 2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the natural resources management and biological sciences classifications or natural resources management and biological sciences specialty codes in the wildlife biology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
