Overview
000336 (Security Officer)
To provide personal and asset protection for patients, visitors and employees throughout the Medical Center facility, and to prevent any potential hazardous conditions through continuous monitoring of all areas. Responsibilities- Maintains personal and asset security by conducting complete and thorough hazard surveillance rounds with emphasis on protecting patients, staff and hospital property. Monitor radio communication, telephone and written notes for daily information; uses various methods of communication including electronic and manual.
- Maintain good standing with the Maryland Department of State Police Licensing (MDSPLD) application, fingerprinting, certification and training requirements.
- When stationed in the Control Center, continuously monitor CCTV for unwarranted actions and maintain written/computer logs and email correspondence as per established policy.
- Respond to emergency calls throughout the facility following established guidelines; respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations, including assisting with patient restraints as needed. Manage emergency situations and ensure execution of disaster plans; notify appropriate leadership of emergencies.
- Conduct preliminary investigations into thefts, shortages and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct by questioning individuals involved; keep supervisor informed at all times.
- Prepare and submit written reports, investigations, and daily events in a complete, timely and accurate manner. Log all responses and incidents.
- Conduct various levels of personal safety screening for weapons, contraband and other unauthorized items using manual and electronic screening devices to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
- Participate in crisis intervention with staff, patients, visitors and others to restore and maintain order quickly and safely.
- Provide staff education on safety topics and train new Officers on department policies and procedures.
- Perform regular patrols of assigned areas on main campus and satellite buildings; inspect designated facilities, fire extinguishers, alarm systems, CCTV and other security equipment; address and/or report concerns as needed.
- Maintain accountability for valuables/property and other forms of evidence; ensure safekeeping and maintain documentation.
- Assist with keys, verify and issue contractor badges, provide on-campus traffic control, parking enforcement, and monitor building systems.
- Readiness and security of helicopter landing area; escort medical personnel to patient locations and provide support for patient transports.
- Provide safety escorts and assistance for staff, visitors and patients as requested.
- Contribute to the achievement of department goals and adhere to policies, procedures, quality and safety standards.
- Perform fire drills as required.
- May work other shifts as necessary.
- Adhere to Luminis Health RISE values (Respect, Inclusion, Service, Excellence).
- Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory in-services, requirements and competency evaluations on time.
- Understand regulatory requirements related to compliance and all applicable laws and regulations; proactively address compliance issues through appropriate channels. Complete mandatory training within specified time frames.
- Maintain current knowledge in areas of responsibility and participate in ongoing educational programs.
- Work collaboratively with team members and demonstrate exceptional customer service when interacting with physicians, patients, residents, visitors, staff and the broader health care community.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least one (1) year of healthcare safety and security experience preferred but not required.
- Must pass a criminal records background check prior to employment.
- Maryland Security Guard Card preferred.
- Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills and excellent customer service are required.
