Facility Maintenance Technician I – Office of Facilities Maintenance and Office of Grounds Maintenance, BWI International Thurgood Marshall Airport, Anne Arundel County, MD.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and execute repairs as needed.
- Assist skills tradesmen and Aviation High Voltage Electrical Technicians with a variety of mild to complex projects.
- Paint runways and taxiways; conduct grass cutting, asphalt and concrete repairs.
- Operate snow‑removal heavy equipment to ensure safe operation of the airfield during inclement weather.
- Work independently or as part of a crew; may specialize in a trade at the journey level.
- Provide guidance, instruction, and assistance to other employees; no supervisory duties.
- Maintain the upkeep and appearance of facilities such as buildings, parking areas, ramps, roads, taxiways, and adjacent areas.
- Completion of the eighth grade.
- No required work experience, though U.S. Armed Forces service may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Class C motor vehicle operator’s license in Maryland for all Facility Maintenance Technician I employees.
- Probationary employees must acquire and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a valid US DOT Medical Card (or MVA‑issued waiver) every two years.
- Employees, including those at higher classification levels, must satisfy the administering agency’s training and certification program requirements during the probationary period and for advancement.
- All BWI Airport employees must obtain an MAA Airfield Operators Permit before permanent appointment.
- Ability to perform maintenance on high structures and in cramped quarters such as tunnels, underground, or confined buildings.
- Willingness to work day or night shifts, including 24‑hour on‑call availability and maintenance of a reliable communication link at personal expense.
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials (asbestos, lead‑based paint, chromium) requiring medical testing, hazardous materials training, and respirator usage.
- Subject to substance abuse and drug testing in accordance with Maryland Transportation Code regulations.
- Essential Employee status may require signing and agreeing to related policies and procedures.
