Responsibilities
- Perform the full range of repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units and systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment when specifications or technical manuals are incomplete or missing.
- Train inexperienced personnel through on‑the‑job instructions and assistance.
- Prepare instructional material and conduct instruction for operators.
- Serve as emergency (no heat) mechanic; install and repair underground high‑ and low‑pressure gas distribution lines.
- Operate a government vehicle that does not exceed a 1‑ton weight range; operate a forklift.
- Ability to perform the full range of maintenance and repair duties as a Heating and Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic, including troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and modifying HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Proficiency in working independently with general supervision under occasional inspection.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination based on a completed background investigation.
- Pre‑employment physical examination required; annual examinations thereafter to ensure ongoing fitness for duties.
- Valid state driver’s license (any U.S. state or possession) and Army Motor Vehicle Operator’s Permit required.
- Certification to operate a forklift up to 15,000 lbs. and motorized lifts required.
- Position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs. during regular duties.
- One‑year probationary period unless prior experience meets special federal criteria.
- U.S. Citizens.
Work requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions; frequent lifting of parts and equipment up to 40 lbs. and occasional handling of items up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
Working ConditionsWork performed inside and outside, exposed to dirt, sewage, dust, grease, fumes, and refrigerant gases; subject to injury from hand and power tools, burns, cuts, bruises, electrical shock, and weather conditions. Protective clothing and equipment must be used as required.
EducationThis position does not have an education qualification requirement.
