MAA is currently accepting applications for the position of Skilled Trade Specialist III Plumber within the Office of Facilities Maintenance at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport).

Responsibilities

As a Journey‑level licensed plumber, you will inspect and approve the work of outside plumbing contractors or in‑house non‑licensed plumbing staff, as well as carry out the full range of plumbing installation and repair work. The incumbent may also perform the work of the crew.

Employees are considered essential and are subject to emergency call‑back procedures 24 hours a day, as required to maintain continuous operation of the facility. Work may include rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of experience working as a plumber and possession of a Journey level or higher Plumber License issued by the Maryland State Board of Plumbing.

Additional Notes:

  • Additional work experience in the skilled trade of plumbing may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required education.
  • A certificate from a vocational‑technical school with a major in plumbing may be substituted for one year of the required general experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non‑commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the skilled trades on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Candidate must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in the State of Maryland and must list license number and expiration date on the application.
  • During the probationary period, employees may be required to obtain and maintain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland, depending on the type of equipment operated.
  • Employees at the Maryland Aviation Administration must have or obtain an Airfield Operators Permit in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations , Control of Vehicular Traffic on the Air Operations Area, prior to permanent appointment.
  • The employing administration may require employees to satisfy its agency training and certification program requirements to obtain and maintain permanent status in this classification.
  • Employees in the licensed plumber option will be required to possess and maintain a journey or higher plumbing license to obtain and maintain permanent status in this classification.
Special Requirements
  • Applicants are subject to an extensive pre‑employment security background check as required by the Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Aviation Regulation Part 107.
  • Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required to maintain continuous operation of a facility and may be subject to call‑in.
  • Employees must maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call‑back requirements.
  • Employees who work with, or may be exposed to, hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead‑based paint, or chromium, may be required to undergo periodic medical testing and may be required to pass hazardous materials training and wear a respirator.
  • Applicants may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance work on high structures and in cramped quarters.
  • Employees in this classification are considered “Essential Employees” and must sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to Essential Employee status.
  • Applicants will be subject to pre‑employment drug testing and substance abuse testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11.
