Position: Software Engineer 2 (16 hours of Telework Available each Week) with Security Clearance

Software Engineer 2 (16 hours of Telework Available each Week) – Annapolis Junction, Maryland

The Software Engineer designs, develops, tests, deploys, documents, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse software systems based on documented requirements, including processing intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real‑time systems, business management information systems, and systems that incorporate data repositories, data transport services, and application and systems development and monitoring.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements.
  • Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features.
  • Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories.
  • Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards.
  • Debug existing software and correct defects.
  • Develop and execute test procedures for software components.
  • Review and test software components for adherence to design requirements and document test results.
  • Resolve software problem reports.
  • Coordinate software installation on a system and monitor performance to ensure operational specifications are met.
  • Perform quality control on team products.
  • Recommend and implement suggestions for improving documentation and software development process standards.
  • Serve as a team lead where appropriate, overseeing software development teams and ensuring work is completed according to the chosen development process.
  • Collaborate with system engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and obtain information on project limitations, performance requirements, and interfaces.
  • Use orchestration frameworks such as Spring and Kafka, and develop or implement event‑driven or data‑driven analytics.
  • Develop and maintain data workflows and automation pipelines using Apache Airflow, ensuring they are reliable, scalable, and observable.
  • Work individually or as part of a team to meet project objectives.
Qualifications
  • U.S. citizenship and an appropriate security clearance (e.g., active TS/SCI with agency‑appropriate polygraph).
  • TS/SCI with agency‑appropriate polygraph.
  • Master’s degree in computer science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university and at least three (3) years of experience as a Software Engineer in similarly scoped programs and contracts, OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university and at least five (5) years of experience as a Software Engineer in similarly scoped programs and contracts, OR
  • Seven (7) years of experience as a Software Engineer in similarly scoped programs and contracts.
Required Technical Skills
  • Experience using the Linux CLI and Linux tools.
  • Experience developing Bash scripts to automate manual processes.
  • Recent software development experience using Python and Java.
  • Experience using Apache Airflow (DAG design, scheduling, operators, sensors) to orchestrate, schedule, and monitor complex workflows.
  • Experience using distributed big‑data processing engines, including Apache Spark.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker, containerd, and Podman.
  • Experience with Git source control system.
  • Java development using the Eclipse IDE.
  • Development of Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) applications.
  • Experience using collaboration and software development tools such as Atlassian (JIRA, Confluence).
  • Experience with continuous integration practices.
  • Use of orchestration frameworks such as Spring and Kafka.
  • Familiarity with queue management systems.
Desired Technical Skills
  • Familiarity with AWS Cloud Services and infrastructure.
