Position OverviewNorthrop Grumman Mission Systems seeks a Principal or Senior Principal Embedded Software Engineer to develop software for cutting‑edge Undersea Payloads. The role involves designing, developing, integrating, and testing embedded systems, primarily using C++, Linux and/or Python, on an agile development team based in Annapolis, MD.
Responsibilities- Work through all phases of the software development cycle: design, development, integration, and test.
- Conduct reviews of software‑related products, designs, and technical documents.
- Participate actively in cross‑functional scrum teams, design reviews, and other required reviews.
- Perform technical peer‑reviews to ensure system/software requirements are met from an end‑to‑end perspective.
- Prioritize tasks and make recommendations to Technical Leads to implement assigned tasking.
- Collaborate with engineering and system specialists when needed.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent STEM discipline with 5+ years of software development experience on embedded real‑time systems (or 3+ years with a master’s degree).
- Experience developing in C++ and Python.
- Experience in embedded software development and in Linux/windows environments.
- Demonstrated experience as a technical lead.
- Microelectronics programming experience.
- U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI with polygraph.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent STEM discipline with 8+ years of software development experience on embedded real‑time systems (or 6+ years with a master’s degree or 3+ years with a PhD).
- Experience developing in C++ and Python.
- Experience in embedded software development and in Linux/windows environments.
- Demonstrated experience as a technical lead.
- Microelectronics programming experience.
- U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI with polygraph.
- Experience with the Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).
- Experience in embedded C++ optimizations.
- Experience in JavaScript.
- Experience in Web GUI development, Qt, CUDA/Array Fire coding, and Docker/K8s.
- Hands‑on hardware integration and testing experience.
- Ability to debug complex integrated applications or test‑setup issues.
- Active TS/SCI clearance.
