general summary: the material coordinator typically works in a warehouse environment and is responsible for tracking inventory levels, handling all aspects of shipping and receiving, and keeping accurate records. On the shipping side, they package items, print labels, weigh packages, and determine appropriate postage. As receiving clerks, they are responsible for comparing bills of lading against actual merchandise received, inspecting for damaged goods, and, once approved, distributing merchandise to the correct locations.
responsibilities- determine the method of shipment and prepare bills, invoices, and other shipping documents.
- receive merchandise – check and sign delivery slips, assist with unloading as necessary.
- inspect and verify incoming goods against invoices or other documents, record shortages, and reject damaged or hazardous goods.
- accept or return merchandise according to established company procedures.
- calculate prices according to guidelines and affix bar codes, prices, and security tags as necessary.
- organize distribution and shipping of goods or hazardous goods.
- make necessary verifications against documents, unpack and route goods or chemicals to appropriate storage areas.
- handle customer pick-up and deliver goods and hazardous goods.
- operate a forklift, hand truck, or other equipment to load, unload, transport, and store goods and hazardous goods.
- maintain internal record-keeping systems.
- contact resource people for various information.
- contact transport companies and suppliers to expedite, trace, or return merchandise that does not conform to specifications or purchase orders.
- assemble containers and crates, pack goods to be shipped, and prepare to identify information and shipping instructions.
- takes inventory, maintains storage area, organizes, and places stock on shelves.
- examine all storage and warehouse facilities for deterioration, damage, or conditions that put goods and hazardous goods at risk.
- ensure area is secure at all times.
- pick up supplies as required.
- high school diploma or equivalent.
- at least two years of related experience.
- knowledge of safe storage and handling procedures for various chemicals and materials.
- knowledge of proper shipping procedures for transportation of dangerous goods.
- forklift operations preferred.
- proficient written and oral communication skills.
- proficient computer skills and ability to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents.
- ability to function well in a high‑paced and at times stressful environment.
- strong math skills – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and ability to compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
- ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- proficient in microsoft office productivity suite.
- must successfully pass a federal, state, or local government background investigation.
- valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
- forklift certification preferred.
- 40‑hour hazwoper certification preferred.
prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands; occasional sitting at a desk and working on a computer; occasional exposure to loud noises; ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times; ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary; ability to hear and see to meet safety requirement levels; occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals.
