Terms of Employment: 9-month teacher, 187 days

Salary:
Determined by placement on Anniston City Schools Salary Schedule.

Stipend: A stipend may be available for this position.

Job Goal

To implement a comprehensive, balanced middle school music and instrumental program. The director will introduce students to fundamental music concepts, build technical proficiency on concert instruments, and foster an environment that promotes personal growth, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts. The director will also ensure a seamless programmatic pipeline into the corresponding high school band program.

Minimum Qualifications

* Education:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Music Education or Instrumental Music from an accredited institution.

* Certification:
Valid Professional Educator Certificate issued by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) with an endorsement in Instrumental Music (Grades P-12 or 6-8).

* Background Clearance:
Must successfully meet suitability criteria for employment and fingerprint clearance

* Licensure: CDL with passenger bus endorsement is preferred.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions

* Instruction & Curriculum:
Teach music theory, history, notation, and instrument-specific techniques to students across grades K-8. Plan and execute tiered daily ensemble rehearsals for beginning and intermediate bands.

* Recruitment & Retention:
Coordinate ongoing recruitment strategies at the elementary school level to build interest and maintain robust student enrollment numbers.

* Performance Coordination:
Organize and direct traditional school concerts, seasonal recitals, and regional evaluation festivals.

* Extracurricular Supervision:
Manage band and auxiliary sections if applicable (e.g., majorettes, color guard, or basic pep band elements) for designated middle school athletic or community events.

* Inventory & Logistics:
Maintain strict property control and accurate databases of school-owned musical instruments, sheet music libraries, uniforms, and structural hardware. Coordinate timely repairs and required routine instrument safety tuning.

* Collaborative Alignment:
Work in active conjunction with feeder elementary programs and district high school band directors to align pedagogical methodology and music criteria.

* Administrative Reporting:
Maintain student grading records, attendance data, and inventory requests utilizing state-approved education software. Adhere to all local board policies, the Alabama Educator Code of Ethics, and relevant state funding guidelines.

* Other duties as assigned. The Anniston City Board of Education reserves the right to amend the job description as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Physical Demands

* Demonstrated proficiency playing and teaching primary woodwind, brass, and percussion instrument families.

* Clear non-verbal conducting capabilities tailored to young or developmental ensembles.

* Physical capacity to stand for extended rehearsal blocks, manually demonstrate instrumental postures, and lift or transport heavy musical equipment up to 50 pounds.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
