Summary

The Manager in Training is responsible for assisting the Store Manager with overall operations and administrative duties. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department, supports the store’s goals and initiatives, upholds policies and standards, and promotes each sale and promotion. It also involves serving as an ambassador of Hibbett I City Gear, providing outstanding customer service, and, in the Store Manager’s absence, assuming supervisory control.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist the Store Manager in controlling assets and managing store operations.
  • Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for departmental and overall store responsibilities such as selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
  • Assume responsibility for the entire store when the Store Manager is absent.
  • Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across all departments.
  • Maintain awareness of inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to ensure profitability.
  • Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
  • Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
  • Ensure quality customer service is maintained and perform general administrative duties as needed.
  • Deliver extraordinary customer service as described in the customer service manual, including assisting customers at entry and during peak periods.
  • Promote and sell services and merchandise provided by Hibbett I City Gear.
  • Uphold all Hibbett I City Gear policies, procedures, and standards as listed in the various manuals and memos.
  • Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring effective internal controls and reporting potential fraud risk.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise employees in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Interview, train, plan, assign, and direct work of employees.
  • Resolve problems and maintain a productive work environment.
Qualifications
  • Experience working in a retail environment, preferably in footwear and athletic apparel.
  • 1–3 years of customer service experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
  • Self‑starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with precision.
  • Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.
