Duties
* Plan detailed on-site surveys of working conditions to determine the nature and magnitude of hazardous exposures and the effectiveness of existing control measures.
* Conducts hazard evaluations of new products, industrial processes, and equipment.
* Manages characterizations, equipment calibrations, exposure measurements, oversees workplace monitoring plans, and recommendations, not limited to controls and/or medical surveillance.
* Establishes program documentation delineating objectives, methodology and priorities for IH activities.
* Demonstrates the use of protective equipment including respirators, hearing protection, and protective clothing
* Provides instruction, training, and advice to management, supervisors, and employees on ways and means of preventing and/or controlling hazardous occupational exposures. Requirements Conditions of employment
* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
* This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
* This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules
* This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
* This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
* Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Additional information about transcripts is . Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygienist:
A. Degree:
Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree must be completed by May 2018. (

B. Related Degree:
Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum. Degree must be completed by May 2018. (

C. Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized
Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes experience conducting a wide variety of complex industrial hygiene surveys and assessments of chemical, physical, and biological hazards; and experience preparing comprehensive written reports of survey findings with specification recommendations for eliminating/mitigating hazards; and experience providing resolution to problems relating to safety, health and environmental controls and the various industrial hygiene programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service (GS-11 or equivalent).
