Job Description
  • Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Tyler Union Safety Management Program. Advise management of any deviations.
  • Interpret schematics and blueprints to ensure accurate installation and maintenance of electrical systems.
  • Conduct routine checks of electrical systems and adhere to the National Electric Code (NEC) and other relevant industry standards.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components and perform bench repair work on electrical equipment.
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
  • Document work performed to complete current ISO standards.
  • Install and test electrical systems or continuity of circuits using testing devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters.
  • Ensure code compliance through proper installation of electrical components.
  • Refer to labels, job site maps, instruction manuals, and written instructions to accurately perform duties in conformance to safety and security standards.
  • Use a variety of tools or equipment—power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair; ensure compliance with codes.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Maintain current electrician’s license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
Qualifications
  • Completion of an Associate degree program in Industrial Electrical Maintenance or two years of related industrial electrical experience (heavy industrial experience preferred).
  • Experience reading electrical schematics.
  • Industrial electrical knowledge verified by verbal testing of AC/DC theory, schematics, blueprint reading, simple circuits, and industrial motor controls (motor starts, overload protection, ladder diagrams).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Mastery of basic required principles, tool usage, and successful completion of a hands‑on test.

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Skills:

    troubleshooting, repairing, active listening, critical thinking, judgment, decision making, installation, active learning, complex problem solving, and equipment maintenance.
  • Abilities: problem sensitivity, deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, near vision, oral comprehension, visual color discrimination, arm–hand steadiness, finger dexterity, information ordering, manual dexterity.
