Job Description
As a Park Campground Host volunteer, you will be a "live‑in" volunteer at Bunker Hills/Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Campground during the period of late April through mid‑October. The primary responsibility is to provide excellent guest services by assisting campers in answering questions and explaining rules that apply to them in a professional and helpful manner. Hosts should be familiar with the campground rules and the reasoning behind them.
They will maintain positive, collaborative, and professional interactions with all Parks Department team members and the public. This position is a very important part of our customer service team. Hosts are provided a free site and a camp unit may remain on site during the host agreement. Hosts will receive an annual vehicle entry permit for their vehicle.
This volunteer opportunity is located at Bunker Hills and Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Campgrounds.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Become familiar with local points of interest and local services (ATMs, groceries, supplies, attractions)
- Perform light cleanup of campground and keep restroom building neat and stocked between cleaning crews’ visits
- Assist in directing visitors to campsites and explaining camping fees
- Assist with camping activities, check‑ins at the office, after‑hours check‑in and firewood sales
- Assist with emergency evacuation or notifications during severe weather
- Help set up campground programs and events as needed
- Monitor campground loops and perform morning and evening rounds to ensure all campers are registered
- Work with visitor center attendants and park services to assist with campground site tag deliveries and removals
- Be on‑call to assist campers when the visitor center is closed or attendants are unavailable
- Greet new campers, introduce yourself, and explain your role
- Primary hours are when visitor centers are closed and unable to assist guests
- Must own or have access to a camper
- Be available for the entire camping season
- Must be available for evening, weekend, and holiday shift work
- Successfully pass a criminal background check
- Successfully pass a pre‑employment drug screen and DOT physical, and other required qualifications
- Sign an informed consent form allowing the County to conduct screening and verify qualifications
