Position: Para educator / Teacher Assistant Special Education - 23022

Para educator Special Education

Full-Time 184 days/6.5 hrs/day

Duties
  • Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center-based settings.
  • Managing behavior (redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom).
  • Monitoring and recording student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
  • Managing physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Personal Care Assistant certification completed within 30 days of start date.
  • Completed 60 semester/90 quarter credits or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution, OR passed the Para Educator exam or Para Pro exam.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
  • Ability to supervise students.
  • Ability to take direction and maintain regular attendance, completing an assigned day.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Ability to perform position responsibilities including physical factors, work devices, materials handling, data functions and people functions, such as toileting, feeding and self-care procedures, implementing behavioral management programs, maintaining student data, and working with students who may display aggressive, abusive or inappropriate verbal and/or physical behavior.
  • Must be physically working in the building.
Rate of Pay

$20.85/hour to $25.50/hour DOQ with K-12 experience

$22.00/hour to $26.65/hour with AA/AAS degree or 60 semester/90 quarter credits from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K-12 experience

$22.85/hour to $27.50/hour with BA degree from a regionally accredited institution, DOQ with K-12 experience

  • Special Ed Paras serving Center based students and classrooms 50 percent or more of their time shall receive an additional $0.50 per hour.
  • Special Ed Paras at Two Rivers Transition Program shall receive an additional $1.00 per hour. Special Ed Paras at River Trail Learning Center shall receive an additional $1.50 per hour.
