Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) is seeking an individual to join our HIMS (Health Information Management Systems) Team for an exciting and rewarding opportunity as a Medical Records Technician! This position will respond to requests for release of information from the medical record ensuring data privacy rules, state and federal statutes are met and provide EHR training to new staff.
Primary responsibilities:- Manage, maintain, and retrieve patient health information as required for authorizations, court orders, and subpoenas following data privacy rules, state and federal statutes.
- Provide Intro to Avatar training for new staff, interns, and others needing access to Avatar.
The following information must be clearly demonstrated on the applicant's resume and/or application:
- Completion of a medical records program from an accredited institution AND eligibility for accreditation from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
- Eligibility for accreditation means completion of required coursework and awaiting certification OR certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
- Experience working with various software including Electronic Health Record Systems.
- Experience with medical terminology.
- Knowledge of hospital systems and workflow.
- Knowledge and experience with quality improvement or patient safety.
- Knowledge of HIPAA Privacy Rule.
