We are currently hiring law clerks for the summer and following school year. This position supports the Office by performing entry‑level legal work, including drafting complaints, reviewing law enforcement submissions to determine appropriate charges, conducting legal research, and preparing memoranda for attorneys. The role may also involve handling a variety of court hearings in District Court, depending on the division where assigned.

As skills and experience grow, the Law Clerk will have opportunities to manage more complex legal matters.

Pay and Benefits

The Anoka County Attorney’s Office is a large professional law firm with a collegial environment where employees are part of a team and support each other in the mission of the office and in day‑to‑day work. In addition, we offer the following:

Work Location
  • This position is located at the Anoka County Government Center in Anoka.
  • Most work is conducted on site at the Anoka County Government Center and the attached Courthouse.
  • Expected work hours are Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Schedule may vary based on business needs and supervisory approval.
Job Duties and Responsibilities

These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Law Clerk.

  • Represent the State of Minnesota in court hearings and court proceedings.
  • Coordinate legal efforts for attorneys.
  • Write and review legal documents.
  • Maintain legal documentation database.
  • Schedule meetings and legal clinics. Ensure necessary materials are prepared beforehand.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Proofread and cite‑check briefs and other materials.
  • Assist with preparation and filing of court papers, depositions, interviews, hearings, and client meetings.
  • Organize and maintain physical and digital case files.
Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be currently enrolled in good standing at an accredited Law School.
  • Eligible for Certification under the Minnesota Supervised Practice rules.
  • Completion of one year of Law School by June of 2026.
  • Successfully pass criminal history background check which includes fingerprinting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a legal environment and/or working with the public.
  • Experience drafting, cite‑checking, and correcting legal briefs.
  • Experience managing medium to large‑scale document productions.
  • Knowledge and competency with case management software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
  • Work is performed in a professional legal office setting. Some field work may be required.
  • Standard office environment, courtrooms, travel to various county work sites and meetings as needed.
  • Work activities may require contact with uncooperative, angry, and sometimes hostile clients depending on assignment.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
