Position: Machine Operator / Pellet Charger - Federal Ammunition

This position reports to the Factory Operations Supervisor and is based out of our Anoka Location.

Responsibilities Pelllet Charger Responsibilities
  • Select proper powder type according to posted schedules; fill holes of charging plate accurately and timely to form primer pellets; transfer charge pellets from charge plate to primer cups or Rimfire shells; inspect cups and shells before and after charging, removing defective cups and shells not containing pellets; maintain the charge table and work area clean and orderly; observe all safety rules;

    report unsafe conditions; conduct training of employees with a variety of skill levels; perform other duties as assigned.
Operator Responsibilities
  • Monitor quality of operation output continuously; make adjustments within own competence; seek assistance from Adjuster or Maintenance Mechanics for more advanced adjustments; maintain productivity to ensure on‑time delivery; actively participate in Natural Work Team process; monitor work area for safety precautions; report hazards; conduct training of employees of varying skill levels; perform other duties as assigned; adjust or operate machines if trained.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Age 18 years of age or older.
  • 1+ years of on‑the‑job experience, with manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Manual dexterity to handle very small items.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to take direction from others.
  • Mechanical experience, demonstrated mechanical ability or strong desire to learn mechanical operations through on‑the‑job training or other technical training.
Physical Requirements
  • Chargers:
    Must stand for all duties; frequent grip, pushing, pulling, exertion of downward pressure; bending of waist and reaching of upper arms and shoulders; extension of arms at shoulder level and rotation of shoulders and forearms; manual dexterity and fingering; occasional lifting and manipulating objects up to 10 lbs.
  • Operators:
    Majority of time spent sitting, standing or moving about; frequent reaching, handling, fingering and manual dexterity to assemble, operate, adjust and inspect; occasional lifting, pushing and manipulating objects weighing up to 35 lbs, with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs; near vision to handle many very small parts and detect visual quality defects; normal color vision and depth perception.
Mental Requirements
  • Attention to detail to identify defects.
  • Ability to take direction from others.
  • Communication skills to work effectively in a team environment.
  • High level of mental attentiveness to manipulate and visually inspect small parts and ensure safety.
  • Reading and basic math comprehension to understand and interpret training guides, SOPs, quality information (SPC, charts, graphs, etc.) and to complete production reports.
  • Interpersonal communication skills to facilitate problem‑solving and interact daily with internal customers and suppliers, other shift associates and work teams.
Equipment Used
  • Charge bed, charge plate, scraper, pin plate, conveyor, tweezers.
  • Pick, wood hammer, plates, inspection gauges, primer storage containers, operations of primer assembly, loader, packer, and draw press.
Working Environment
  • Charger:
    Some exposure to airborne lead, continual exposure to explosives, wet floors and mechanical hazards (conveyers); all work is done with or around others; frequent direction received.
  • Operator:
    Majority work spent on the manufacturing floor subject to noise/vibration, mechanical equipment hazards and moving equipment such as fork trucks and motorized carts; exposure to various chemicals depending on area assigned.
  • Employee work assignments may include tasks working with and/or exposure to potentially hazardous areas, including flammables and explosives.
Pay

Start at $24.62 per hour plus applicable shift differential; the first 90‑day increase is to $28.06 and increases every 90 days based on performance, up to $35.77. Pay range: $24.62 – $35.77.
