- Provide direct and indirect nursing care for inmates' psychological, physical, and mental health needs
- Provide clinical care across intake, sick call, chronic care, and emergency situations
- Order, administer, and/or distribute prescribed medications as directed
- Prepare written records and reports and update charts on treatments, procedures, and patient conditions
- Implement nursing care and medical orders safely and responsibly
- Maintain medical records related to health screening, treatment, and care provided during incarceration
- Consult with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate individual care plans
- Coordinate external healthcare services
- Promote and demonstrate effective communication skills
- Provide on-call coverage consistent with facility policies and standards
- Accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades program and at least 2 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience
- In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis
- Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Minnesota
- Successfully pass an extensive criminal background investigation
- Previous correctional health or similar experience preferred
- Ability to provide care in a correctional institution and interact with uncooperative, angry, or hostile clients
- Ability to perform varied physical activity, including bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, and handling/carrying medical equipment
- Regular lifting of 0-25 lbs. and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to use computers, phones, standard office equipment, and medical equipment
- Ability to meet required vision and hearing abilities
- Ability to work three 12-hour shifts with every third weekend rotation
- Must comply with Sheriff's Office tattoo, scar, and brand policy
- Successfully pass required pre-employment criminal/driving background check, drug screen, DOT physical, and/or other qualification checks as applicable
Demonstrates expertise in providing direct and indirect nursing care within a correctional setting, including medication administration, patient record management, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Proficient in handling diverse patient needs while ensuring compliance with facility policies and maintaining effective communication.
