Project Accountant

The Axel Group is seeking a Project Accountant for our client's team. This position supports the financial management of large-scale multifamily construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. You’ll partner closely with project leadership, subcontractors, and the accounting team to ensure accurate project financial reporting, cost tracking, billing, and contract administration in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.

• Maintain financial records for multiple multifamily construction projects
• Monitor project budgets, costs, commitments, and profitability throughout the project lifecycle
• Process and review subcontractor invoices, vendor invoices, and payment applications
• Prepare and submit owner billings, including AIA pay applications and supporting documentation
• Track and reconcile project costs, change orders, retainage, and contract values
• Collaborate with Project Managers to review financial performance and identify cost variances
• Assist with monthly forecasting, job cost reporting, and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules
• Ensure proper coding and allocation of project-related expenses
• Manage subcontractor compliance documentation (certificates of insurance, lien waivers, contracts)
• Assist with project setup, contract administration, and closeout activities
• Prepare financial reports and analyses for management review
• Support month-end and year-end close processes
• Maintain accurate, organized project accounting files and documentation

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)
• 3+ years of accounting experience, ideally in the construction industry
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment
