Job Title: THS Special Education Instructor

Location: Emmett O’Brien Technical High School, Killingly, CT

Schedule &

Hours:

Full time, first shift, 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Educate students with and without disabilities across all discipline areas, employing differentiated instructional strategies and assistive technology.
  • Modify and adapt curriculum, collaborate with content‑area teachers to ensure equitable learning opportunities.
  • Foster a gradual release of responsibility, promote student discourse and self‑advocacy.
  • Design and assess transition needs, engage in parent and community outreach, and participate in consultation and collaboration.
  • Create a student‑centered classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Administer a variety of assessment batteries and engage in professional learning.
  • Manage students with disabilities through case management practices and behavior intervention plans.
Qualifications
  • Active State of Connecticut teaching certificate in 065, 165, or 265 Comprehensive Special Education, or eligible for a Connecticut teaching certificate.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in a high‑school setting (9‑12 education).
  • Experience in trade career referral and special education programs.
  • Proficiency with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
  • Strong classroom management skills and experience with behavior intervention plans.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Competence in using computer software such as Microsoft Office and Google products.
  • Valid secondary‑school endorsement and other applicable certifications at time of appointment.
