5th Grade Teaching Assistant

• • Support the lead teacher in implementing a rich Core Knowledge curriculum
• • Function as a second teacher in the classroom without shouldering all planning, grading/evaluation, and parent communications
• • Learn the craft of teaching through mentorship with a Master Teacher in a classical liberal arts primary-school environment
• • Support and advance the mission of Great Hearts by contributing to a respectful, intellectually vibrant school community
• • Collaborate with teachers to support instruction, student learning, and daily classroom activities
• • Uphold school policies and promote an orderly, professional learning environment
• • Participate in faculty meetings, school events, conferences, and assigned duties
• • Pursue ongoing professional growth and deepen knowledge of the classical tradition
• • May travel locally for training and professional development opportunities

• Experience working with students
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Interest in reading great books
• Associate's or bachelor's degree preferred but not required
• Some locations may require an AA, 60 hours of college credit, or passing a Para Pro proficiency exam before beginning work
• US work authorization required; OPT/CPT candidates accepted
• Successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance required
• Ability to perform standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching
• May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds
• Local travel may be required for training and professional development
