Job Title
Special Education Aide (Behavior Support) – Hourly/Non‑Exempt position reporting to the Special Education Director at the SPED/District‑Wide level.
Primary PurposeAssist in implementing behavioral interventions and support for special education students across PK‑12, facilitating self‑help, behavior management, and curriculum instruction aligned with individualized goals.
Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED with one of the following: 48 credit hours from an accredited institution, an associate (or higher) degree, or a passing score on the paraprofessional assessment for Educational Aide I.
- Experience working with students or parents in settings such as churches, day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed day‑care centers, or similar environments.
- Ability to work with students with disabilities.
- Effective oral and written communication with students, teachers, and parents.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality regarding student information.
- Assist students in using adaptive/assistive equipment as indicated in the Student’s IEP.
- Assist students with integration of technology and educational media into daily instruction under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Assist in the implementation, monitoring, and documentation of the student IEP under the direction of the special education teacher.
- Work with small groups or individual students to reinforce material introduced by the teacher.
- Act as a positive role model concerning communication and social skills.
- Reinforce instruction to increase independence in social, personal‑care, and behavioral skills.
- Assist teachers during field trips or community‑based learning activities.
- Assist in preparing and managing instructional materials and adapting them to meet individualized needs.
- Supervise students’ arrival/departure from the classroom or bus, check with bus monitor on concerns, assist transitions to PE, elective classes, cafeteria, playground, and other activities.
- Assist with students’ personal hygiene needs.
- Assist in the implementation of the classroom discipline plan and/or student’s behavior‑management plan.
- Participate in staff development related to instructional programs, adaptive‑assistive devices, community‑based instruction, disabilities, social‑skills training, CPR, and other related areas.
- Gain understanding of various mental and physical disabilities to assist students with basic behavioral, social, and functional living skills through staff development and mentoring.
- Work cooperatively with teachers and other professionals.
- Follow directives regarding student needs and instructional program.
- Communicate effectively via electronic media, email, phone calls, and other means.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance to avoid disruption to district operations.
- Provide optimal customer service to all stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.

Mental and Physical DemandsStandard office equipment use, prolonged sitting or standing, occasional bending, pushing/pulling, twisting, repetitive hand motions, keyboarding, mouse use. Light lifting of less than 15 lbs. Work may involve prolonged or irregular hours, indoor/outdoor environments, frequent district wide travel, and occasional statewide travel. Requires maintaining emotional control under stress and working with frequent interruptions.

$18.54 (Minimum) – $22.34 (Midpoint). Shift Type:
Full‑Time. Term of Employment: 182 days.
