Delta Diablo is pleased to announce the recruitment efforts for 2 new staff members to join our growing Engineering Services Division. We are recruiting for Associate Engineers, Assistant Engineers, and Junior Engineers. These positions will directly support the timely delivery of the District's capital projects, processing of development permits, and support for other division projects and studies.
These positions will remain open until filled. We encourage applicants to submit their applications by Monday, April 13, 2026. First Round Interviews will be the week of May 4, 2026, with Second Round Interviews being held the week of May 11, 2026.
SALARY RANGE:
Assistant Engineer $5,421.36 - $6,589.70 Biweekly
Under direct supervision, performs entry-level engineering project work in conformance with procedures, approved civil engineering methods, and professional techniques.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis is an entry-level, professional technical engineering classification.
Typical DutiesProject Management: Learns to plan and manage approved projects involving capital improvements or replacement and repair of major components of existing water treatment and distribution systems, wastewater treatment plant, collection systems, pump stations, and related facilities. Coordinates assigned capital projects with other departments and outside agencies. Develops and manages budgets, records costs, and schedules of assigned projects. Participates in the selection of consultants for assigned projects;
develops requests for proposals, prepares scope of work, and assists in negotiating agreements. Prepares detailed engineering field studies, cost estimates, and reports. Prepares recommendations and project status reports and makes oral and written presentations. Analyzes billings and progress payment requests and recommends payment. Coordinates CEQA compliance for projects. Enforces District policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Engineering Studies and Designs: Learns to prepare and conduct detailed engineering field studies, cost estimates, and reports to identify future facility needs, and as required, to prepare capital improvement projects for implementation. Researches and prepares information and data for engineering projects involving the application of multiple legal, technical, or regulatory requirements. Learns to perform engineering design work, including preparing drawings, exhibits, maps, and other project materials.
Provides technical support for field operations. Learns to plan and manage capital improvement projects through construction, including inspection activities. Reviews development documents and contractor submittals.
Other Assigned Duties: General Operations:
May be assigned to assist with the administration of the Household Hazardous Waste Program. Prepares information for budget requests and special projects. Participates in the general housekeeping and administrative record‑keeping operations of the department. Assumes responsibility for covering a part of the work assignments of other engineering staff during short absences. Participates in teams engaged with process and customer service improvements, cross‑training, and team performance evaluations.
Prepares and presents formal reports and recommendations as appropriate. Participates in District committees and staff functions. Performs other assigned work consistent with the responsibilities of the classification and necessary to effective department and District operations.
A combination of training and experience which demonstrates that a person has obtained the required knowledge and is able to perform the required work (with reasonable accommodation, if needed). A person with the following training would typically qualify to compete in a selection process:
Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field from a recognized college or university.

Certifications:
A valid California State Class C license must be maintained at all times. Continued maintenance of a valid driver’s license in compliance with established District vehicle operations standards, and the ability to be insured for the operation of a vehicle/District vehicle in accordance with the terms and conditions of the District’s insurance program are conditions of continued employment. Must be able to obtain a California State Engineer-in-Training certificate within 18 months of initial employment.
