Home Health Occupational Therapist

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education:
  
  A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program (ACOTE).
• Licensure: A current, unrestricted state license as an Occupational Therapist.
• Certification:
  National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) as a Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR).
• Logistics: A valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation, as the role involves traveling to multiple patient homes daily.
• Focus Areas:
  • ADLs:
    Dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting, feeding.
  • IADLs:
    Meal prep, household management, medication management, financial management.
  • Cognitive
    
    Skills:
    
    Memory, problem-solving, safety awareness.
  • Environmental Adaptation:
    Making the home functional and safe.
• Essential Skills & Environment:
  • Autonomy & Travel:
    Work independently, traveling between homes, often requiring schedule flexibility.
  • Collaboration:
    
    Strong communication skills to work within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Problem-Solving:
    Differentiate urgent from non-urgent situations and manage varied patient needs.
  • Technical
    
    Skills:
    
    Proficiency with required technology for documentation and communication.
  • Technology Proficiency:
    Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems (e.g., Kinnser, Home Care Home Base) is standard for mobile documentation.
