Utility Technician, Maintenance Worker, Building Maintenance, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
The Village of Antioch is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Water Operator I or II, depending on qualifications (DOQ). This position is responsible for performing tasks related to the operation, care and maintenance of the Village of Antioch’s water, sewer and collection systems.
Duties include, but are not limited to, general water-system and treatment-equipment maintenance; checking pumps, wells, collection systems, and lift stations; performing chemical treatment and sampling activities; fire-hydrant maintenance and flushing; quarterly tower draining; reading, installing, repairing, and replacing water meters; sewer rodding; assisting with or repairing water main breaks; and other related duties as assigned.
The position may be exposed to extreme weather, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, loud noise, mechanical hazards, and potentially hazardous conditions. The successful candidate must be able to perform physically demanding work, including snow removal, and be available for overtime and rotating on-call, evening, weekend, holiday, and emergency-response assignments.
The position reports to the Supervisor of Water Operations. Additional responsibilities include snow removal and the ability to work overtime, weekends and be on call 24/ 7 on a rotating basis.

Qualifications and Salary- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Illinois driver’s license
- Possession of a valid Class “B” CDL with Air Brakes Endorsement or ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire.
Applicants must have knowledge of water and sewer equipment and systems, including lift stations and wells; the ability to safely use hand tools and equipment related to the position; and the ability to perform heavy manual labor, including lifting and carrying items weighing up to 100 pounds. Knowledge of Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) and EPA requirements applicable to water and sewer operations is required.
Water Operator IMinimum of one (1) year of experience in water/sewer system operations and maintenance, or a related field. A Class “C” Water Operator License or higher is preferred. The full hourly pay range is $27.83 to $36.01 DOQ.
Water Operator IIMinimum of three (3) years of experience in water/sewer system operations and maintenance, or a related field. Possession of a Class “B” Water Operator License or higher is required. Candidates must demonstrate more advanced knowledge of water-treatment operations, system controls, chlorination, equipment maintenance, and applicable IEPA/EPA requirements. The full hourly pay range is $32.79 to $42.44 DOQ.
