Job Title
Performs advanced-level clerical, data entry, and bookkeeping work as a receptionist and/or cashier using specific and varied software and administrative support in the Office of the Treasurer. Collects and records tax payments to meet the statutory responsibilities of the County Treasurer and ex officio Tax Collector. The Tax Specialist, Senior is distinguished from the Tax Specialist by the regular performance of complex level responsibilities.
Job SummaryThe Tax Specialist, Senior is responsible for receiving, accounting, and recording payment transactions relative to property tax receipts from individual taxpayers, lending institutions, escrow, and title companies. Complete tax roll corrections as needed and calculates interest and penalties on tax bills. Process tax adjustments on tax liens as needed. Work with ADOT on personal property delinquencies. Responsible for the research for the State of Arizona deeding process.
Apply and reconcile refunds to accounts on tax charges. Responsible for processing and verifying default judgments and treasury deeds. May process property splits/combinations by reviewing and analyzing parcel history, ownership changes and identifying any reconciliation errors. May perform lead duties. Promote and adhere to the workplace values of accountability, commitment, and teamwork to help enrich lives beyond expectation. Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
Perform other related duties as required.
Associate's degree in business or related field. Five (5) years of bookkeeping or real/personal property experience. Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesEnglish grammar, spelling and basic math. Standard office practices, procedures and equipment. Computers and software programs to include use of electronic spreadsheet and word processing applications. Data entry and verification procedures. Operating and utilizing modern office machines as necessary to include copiers, fax transmittal machines, calculator and the use of computer keyboards and related software and peripheral equipment. Communicating and maintaining professionalism with the public, Treasury Team, peers and work contacts.
Successfully participate in extensive public contact for extended periods at a rapid pace and sometimes under stressful and confrontational situations. Type accurately and at a speed necessary to fulfill job responsibilities. Make rapid and accurate mathematical computations. Research and verify information. Work neatly and systematically in order to accurately maintain up-to-date records and documentation. Interpret and research utilizing Arizona Revised Statutes.
Use prudent and reasonable judgment in applying established guidelines to solve technical challenges. Follow written and verbal instructions. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must be able to perform the physical requirements of this classification with or without a reasonable accommodation.
The work requires Independent body mobility to stand, move, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see/read; hear and speak to communicate with customers in person and over the phone.
Work EnvironmentWork is performed in an office environment. The hiring salary for this position is dependent upon experience, qualifications and position funding; starting salaries above the first quartile require additional approval.
