Position Summary:
The Special Education Program Coordinator supports the Special Education Director by
providing professional leadership to organize, supervise and maintain an effective and IDEA
compliant Special Education Department at the assigned school. The coordinator will provide
direction in compliance by providing information and resources to others; reviewing files for
compliance; achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and
maintaining compliance with established guidelines (IDEA, District policy); and serving as a
member of the special education leadership team.
Essential Functions:
* Possesses a clear understanding of the rules and regulations regarding IDEA.
* Supports and monitors special education staff for compliance with IDEA.
* Collaborates with internal and external personnel for the purpose of implementing and/or
maintaining services and programs.
* Compiles data from a wide variety of sources for the purpose of implementing policies and
procedures and/or monitoring program components.
* Facilitates meetings serving as a District representative.
* Creates and provides training and professional development for the purpose of necessary
department/program file compliance.
* Attend all administrative meetings as appropriate for the purpose of ensuring effective
communication between the building and district level teams.
* Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective
work environment.
* Assists in developing continuity of comprehensive programs and services.
* Observes students and classrooms and makes recommendations.
* Provides ongoing communication regarding special service programs to staff members and
parents.
* Informs the Director of Special Education of student progress, teacher and other personnel
effectiveness, and program development.
* Support building level special education teams as needed.
* Able to work in diverse environments, with frequent interruptions; and changing work
priorities.
* Ability to support facility needs at the building level.
Education/
Experience:
Bachelor's degree
Minimum of 5 years of special education teaching.
Demonstrated leadership and supervision experience.
Licenses and
Certifications:
Valid Arizona Special Education teacher certification
Valid DPS Fingerprint clearance card with IVP
Salary:
Salary dependent on experience and education
