What You’ll Do

As a CDL‑A Test Driver, you will safely operate commercial test vehicles in real‑world driving conditions while evaluating vehicle performance and collecting valuable data for engineering teams.

Schedule

Monday - Friday | 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM

Responsibilities include
  • Drive medium‑ and heavy‑duty commercial vehicles on designated test routes and proving grounds.
  • Conduct thorough pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections.
  • Follow detailed testing procedures and customer instructions.
  • Evaluate vehicle systems including transmissions, drivability, durability, ride quality, fuel economy, and emerging technologies.
  • Document observations, concerns, and vehicle performance in detailed reports.
  • Use tablets, electronic logging systems, and vehicle maintenance software.
  • Communicate regularly with technicians, engineers, and project teams.
  • Participate in ride‑alongs and specialized testing events.
  • Support vehicle transportation and testing activities in various states when needed.
  • Properly manage travel documentation, receipts, and expense reporting.
Travel Opportunities

This position occasionally requires travel throughout the United States to support specialized testing programs. Candidates should be comfortable with:

  • Flying for business travel
  • Overnight travel when required
  • Driving unfamiliar routes and locations
  • Ability to travel up to 30% as needed
  • Representing TPG professionally while traveling
Required Qualifications
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL‑A) with a medical examiner’s certification (MEC)
  • Minimum 3 years of safe commercial driving experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Ability to follow detailed testing procedures
  • Comfortable using technology such as tablets, electronic logs, and vehicle software systems
  • Ability to travel as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • CDL endorsements
  • Passenger endorsement or willingness to obtain within 90 days
  • Experience with vehicle inspections and maintenance reporting
  • Experience securing vehicles with chains, straps, and tie‑down system
Safety
  • Able to drive safely in various conditions, follow policies and take ownership for working safely to avoid risks to self and others
  • Minimum of 3 years of driving experience with excellent driving record
  • Safety Sensitive position requiring all persons assigned to activity be drug free. Alcohol consumption not permitted 8 hours prior to beginning of start of shift.
  • Able to safely drive in heavy traffic and adverse weather conditions.
  • May support training of others on performance and safe driving skills.
  • Document near misses, make suggestions for reduction of risk exposure and communicate all damage to vehicle including scrapes, dings etc. Participate in and support corrective action plans as requested
Physical
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, often 8+ hours per shift
  • Ability to enter and exit commercial vehicles frequently
  • Ability to perform vehicle inspections in various weather conditions
Interpersonal skills
  • Able to work cooperatively in diverse & challenging environment. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexible and receptive to new requests.
