TOWN OF APEX invites applications for the position of: LSE Lead Camp Counselor - Summer Camp ABOUT THIS POSITION

Schedule:

This position begins early June and runs through mid-August. Hours limited to 40/week and range Monday–Friday between 8:30am-5:00pm.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

The Lead Camp Counselor role makes summer fun! As a Lead Counselor, you will work directly under the Camp Directors to prepare, lead and actively participate in active/passive games, arts and crafts, food experiences, outdoor activities, science experiments and more. Lead Camp Counselors will work to support Camp Counselors in the various essential tasks that make the camp day successful. Additionally, this position will be required to be trained on and drive a 14-passenger mini bus.

This position is supervised by the Camp Directors and full-time Recreation Program Specialist. This position is part‑time and does not qualify for benefits. Hours are Monday–Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm

A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS
  • Actively leads, organizes, and engages participants in active/passive games, arts and crafts, food experiences, outdoor activities, science experiments, and others scheduled by the Camp Directors.
  • Assist in the set up and/or breakdown of scheduled activities.
  • Support and assist a team of camp counselors throughout the camp day.
  • Effectively communicate at all times with Camp Leadership team and counselors.
  • Provides excellent customer service to families and works with Leadership staff in communicating with families as needed.
  • Monitor campers, with support of full-time staff, who have medical/inclusion accommodations.
  • Administer first aid.
  • Documents injuries and behavior incidents alongside Camp Directors.
  • Identifies unsafe situations and work hazards, corrects them if possible and reports them to their supervisor.
  • Implements camp rules and maintains behavior management policies in a positive manner with campers and staff.
  • Maintain clean work and play areas.
  • Carries out job duties in a safe manner in accordance with all Town policies; follows safety procedures.
  • Must be successfully trained on the operation of a 14 passenger mini bus and be comfortable transporting campers and staff to and from off‑site trip locations.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
  • Must be 18 years or older at the time of employment.
  • Preferred candidates will be CPR and first‑aid certified and have previous experience working in a track or summer camp setting.
  • Valid state‑issued Class C driver’s license.
