GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Regional Exceptional Children’s Program Coordinator is responsible for identifying, developing, and coordinating resources across each campus in the region to meet the needs of students who qualify for special education. The Regional Program Coordinator is responsible for working with regional campus EC personnel to provide appropriate programs for all special education students on the campus. The regional program coordinator is also responsible for leading assigned special education programs for staff and for program development.
Qualifications- Master’s degree in Special Education
- Master’s degree in Special Education or Bachelor’s degree in Special Education with five (5) years of specific related experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of Special Education field experience.
- Minimum of 5 Years of special education experience
- Minimum of 3 Years of leadership experience
- A self‑motivated leader who can work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong knowledge of State and Federal Special Education laws (rules and regulations)
- Strong understanding of student performance strategies, research, and literature
- Experience as a special education teacher
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of computers and fundamental technology
- Experience working in Title I schools
Special Education
- Lead the Regional EC Department of TMSA Public Charter Schools.
- Maintain confidentiality of all student, parent, and staff information.
- Serve as an instructional leader, consultant, and source of support for all teachers and students on assigned campuses and program areas.
- Facilitate the placement of students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
- Provide follow‑up for special education placements, including planning and implementing related services, adaptive equipment, instructional materials, and record‑keeping.
- Provide program development, implementation, and program evaluation.
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of curriculum and instruction for students with special education needs.
- Work with the Executive Director to plan and provide in‑service training and staff development for general education and special education staff.
- Prepare and submit staff development budgets for various areas.
- Interview special education applicants and, in coordination with campus administrators, recommend hiring personnel in accordance with district policies and regulations.
- Document classroom visits on a regular basis to observe teacher‑student interactions and identify and recommend improvements in areas needing improvement.
- Assist in evaluating teachers/assistants in special education programs at their schools and evaluate staff assigned at the request of Principals.
- Work with the data managers to monitor and ensure that all student files meet NC DPI compliance standards.
- Participate in Annual Review Development/Initial meetings as needed, monitor the appropriate development of IEPs to ensure quality programming, and follow up to ensure compliance with IEPs.
- Coordinate transition services for children from home to the school environment, from one educational program to another, from high school to higher education or successful job placement, or to other agency services.
- Serve as a conflict mediator/problem solver in crisis situations involving students' programs, placements, and behavior.
- Advise campus administration on appropriate student scheduling, maximum staff utilization, facility utilization, appropriate materials, and equipment selection.
