Transportation Engineer
Position located at 105-B Upchurch St, Apex, NC 27502, USA. Salary range: $87,474.19 - $.
Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm.
Serves as a project manager in support of technical programs and projects in the Town of Apex. Acts as a professional, certified engineer with significant experience in research and design, oversight of construction, and representation of the Town with agencies and the public. Exercises substantial judgment and independence, including interactions with citizens, contractors, engineers and developers. Provides technical guidance to personnel.
Reports to the Transportation Engineering Manager.
- Prepare engineering studies and reports.
- Maintain records and reports related to contract administration and project management.
- Attend meetings representing the Town, including those in the absence of the Transportation Engineering Manager and/or the Transportation & Infrastructure Development Director.
- Advocate for the Town’s needs at local and regional meetings and build relationships with state, federal and local agencies.
- Design engineering projects to expand and improve the Town’s systems; oversee planning, design, budgeting, permitting, and bidding.
- Assist with amendments to the Town’s standard specifications and detail drawings.
- Respond to requests for information from citizens, realtors, developers and other stakeholders; resolve complaints and conflicts.
Skills and Abilities
- Proficient in Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Bentley Systems Micro Station, Open Roads Designer, or equivalent.
- Comprehensive knowledge of street and sidewalk design, roadway planning, storm drainage, water/ sewer design, pavement markings, grading and erosion control, traffic control and private utility coordination.
- Deep understanding of engineering principles, practices, methods, laws, regulations, guidelines, standards and codes for design and construction.
- Knowledge of project management, public financing, contracting and budgeting, and local, state and federal regulations.
- Strong engineering mathematics and computer application skills for complex calculations and cost estimation.
- Ability to negotiate, represent the Town and administer agreements.
- Capability to perform complex engineering work with minimal supervision.
- Skill to provide clear, concise, professional consultation to staff, council, manager, and other stakeholders.
- Competence to draft comprehensive technical reports, deliver public presentations and communicate professionally with the public and development community.
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of four (4) years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications- Ability to obtain an NC Engineering Intern certification within 1 year of employment.
- Ability to obtain an NC Professional Engineer (PE) license within 5 years of employment.
- Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Current EI certification.
North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) license.
