LSE Sound & Light Technician

What you will be doing

An employee in this position performs technical duties associated with professional sound, light, and video equipment for The Halle Cultural Arts Center events. Work involves providing sound, light, and video for Halle events such as concerts, plays, movies, meetings, and for Hall rental events such as birthday parties, performances, and weddings. Work may require weekdays, weeknights, or weekend shifts, some lasting multiple days in a row for play performances and rehearsals.

Work may be indoor or outdoor events.

This position reports to the Cultural Arts Center Manager. This position does not supervise.

Essential Duties
  • Operate the theatre sound and lighting systems and portable outdoor sound and lighting system used at Halle events, Hall rental events, remote town events, and summer outdoor music and movie series.
  • Coordinate with show directors to curate sound and light queues.
  • Assist in proper organization of equipment and maintaining supplies.
  • Assist with planning for system upgrades and enhancements; review technical riders for touring artists and coordinate with production manager.
  • Perform minor repairs to equipment as needed.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or GED and two to four years of experience operating sound and light boards, or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Preferred
  • Previous technical theatre experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of technical theatre.
  • Knowledge of Windows PC with Office applications.
  • Working knowledge of techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, dance, and music productions and presentations including stage, set, sound and light design and implementation, computerized lighting systems, sound system mixers, equalizers, compressors, power amplifiers and other professional sound equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot sound and lighting system malfunctions.
  • Ability to comprehend, make decisions and respond to a variety of situations in an expedient manner.
