IT Intern Position

The IT Intern provides entry-level technical support to campus staff and students under the direct supervision of the campus IT Technician or designated supervisor. This is a structured, temporary learning position designed to give a current student or recent graduate supervised, hands-on experience in a K–12 educational technology environment while providing meaningful support to campus technology operations.

This position is not a substitute for a qualified IT Technician. All work is performed under supervision, and the intern does not carry independent responsibility for network administration, system configuration, or data management.

Hardware and Device Support
  • Assist with imaging, configuration, labeling, and deployment of student and staff devices (Chromebooks, laptops, desktops, tablets).
  • Perform basic diagnostic troubleshooting on hardware issues and escalate unresolved items to the supervising technician.
  • Support device collection, inventory counts, cleaning, and storage during and between academic terms.
  • Assist with basic peripheral setup: monitors, printers, projectors, interactive displays, charging carts, and classroom AV equipment.
Help Desk and Ticket Support
  • Respond to assigned support tickets under supervision, documenting actions taken and resolution status.
  • Provide first-tier assistance to staff and students on password resets, account access, printing, and common application issues, following established procedures.
  • Escalate any issue involving system configuration, security, network changes, or student data access to the supervising technician.
Inventory and Documentation
  • Maintain and update the campus technology asset inventory, including serial numbers, assignment records, and repair status.
  • Assist in tracking warranty claims, repair tickets, and vendor return shipments.
  • Contribute to and maintain internal support documentation and how-to guides for staff.
Event and Classroom Technology Support
  • Set up and break down technology for testing windows, assemblies, staff meetings, and campus events.
  • Provide on-site support during standardized testing administration as directed, within the limits of test security protocols.
General
  • Maintain a professional, service-oriented demeanor with staff, students, and families.
  • Comply with all TMSA policies, including confidentiality, acceptable use, and student interaction standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of the position and the intern's supervised training plan.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a high school, community college, or university program in information technology, computer science, or a related field.
  • Basic working knowledge of Windows and/or Chrome OS operating systems.
  • Demonstrated interest in technology support, troubleshooting, or systems administration.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and to ask for direction when a task falls outside assigned scope.
  • Strong customer-service orientation and professional communication skills appropriate for interacting with staff, students, and families.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior coursework, certification progress, or experience with Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft 365, or Chromebook device management.
  • Familiarity with help desk ticketing systems.
  • CompTIA A+ certification or active progress toward it.
  • Experience in a school, library, or public-facing technical support setting.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to move devices and carts between classrooms and buildings.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, reach, and work under desks or in confined spaces to access cabling and hardware.
  • Extended periods of sitting or standing while working at a workstation.
