The Fleet Manager serves as the primary liaison between Valcourt, Element Fleet Management, Samsara, OEMs, upfitters, maintenance vendors, fuel providers, insurance partners, and internal business leaders. The role owns the complete vehicle lifecycle—from acquisition through disposal—while driving safety, compliance, operational efficiency, and total cost of ownership.
Success in this role requires a strategic leader capable of building enterprise fleet policies while also executing the daily operational activities necessary to support the field.
Key Responsibilities Fleet Strategy & Leadership Develop and execute Valcourt's enterprise fleet strategy.
Align fleet initiatives with company operational and financial objectives.
Establish fleet KPIs and performance metrics.
Develop fleet policies and governance standards.
Lead continuous improvement initiatives across the fleet program.
Serve as the company's subject matter expert on fleet operations.
Present fleet performance to executive leadership.
Vehicle Lifecycle Management Manage the complete lifecycle of company vehicles including:
Vehicle specification developmentOEM selection
Vehicle ordering
Upfitting coordination
Delivery scheduling
Vehicle assignments
Replacement planning
Vehicle transfers
Fleet utilization analysis
Vehicle remarketing and disposal
Financial Management Own annual fleet budgets including:
Vehicle acquisition planning
Lease vs. purchase analysis
Operating cost management
Fuel spend analysis
Maintenance spend
Accident costs
Registration expenses
Telematics costs
Responsibilities include:
Budget development
Monthly financial reporting
Cost reduction initiativesROI analysis
Vendor negotiations
Fleet forecasting
Quarterly executive reviews
Vendor Management Manage strategic relationships with:
Element Fleet Management Vehicle manufacturers
Dealers
Upfit vendors
Maintenance providers
Fuel providers
Telematics providers (Samsara)
Toll management providers
Registration vendors
Insurance and Risk partners
Responsible for:
Performance reviewsSLA management
Escalation management
Contract compliance
Continuous improvement
Maintenance & Asset Management Oversee:
Preventive maintenance programs
Repair approvals
Warranty recovery
Maintenance compliance
Vehicle downtime
Repair escalation
Vendor performance
Lifecycle cost analysis
Driver Management Support:
New hire onboarding
Vehicle assignments
Driver eligibility
Driver communications
Vehicle reassignments
Leave of absence vehicles
Driver offboarding
Fleet policy education
Safety & Compliance Lead enterprise compliance including:
Fleet policy administration
Driver qualification standardsMVR management

Accident investigations
Regulatory compliance OSHA and DOT coordination (where applicable)
Registration & Licensing Oversee:
Titles Registrations State renewals

Telematics & Technology Own enterprise fleet technology including:
Samsara implementation
Driver scorecards
Idle reporting GPS analytics
Utilization reporting
Fuel exception reporting
Camera event review
Fleet dashboards
Technology adoption
Reporting & Analytics Develop executive dashboards covering:
Fleet size Fleet utilization
Replacement schedules
Maintenance spend
Fuel spend
Cost per mile Accident frequency
Safety metrics
Vehicle downtime
Vendor performance
Fleet savings
Budget performance
Cross-Functional Leadership Partner closely with:
Procurement Operations Safety HRFinance Accounting Risk Management Legal Branch Managers Regional Vice Presidents Serve as the primary point of contact for fleet-related initiatives across the organization.
Qualifications Required Bachelor 's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Fleet Management, Engineering, or related field7–10+ years of fleet management experience
Experience managing 500+ vehicle fleets
Strong financial analysis and budgeting skills
Vendor negotiation experience
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Advanced Excel and data analytics proficiency
Experience with fleet management software
PreferredCAFM (Certified Automotive Fleet Manager)
CAFS certification
Experience with Element Fleet Management
Experience with Samsara telematics
Multi-state fleet compliance experience
Construction or service fleet experience
