Position Summary
The Compounding Chemist B supports the development, preparation, and evaluation of elastomer coatings and in‑mould coating systems within the Performance Coatings business. This role is responsible for compounding materials, conducting laboratory application work, performing testing, and supporting technical service and manufacturing scale‑up activities. The position requires hands‑on lab work, strong attention to detail, and the ability to follow established compounding and testing methods.
The Chemist B works closely with senior chemists, Technical Sales, Quality, R&D, and Manufacturing to ensure product performance and customer satisfaction.

Duties include the following; other responsibilities may be assigned by Management or Leadership.
- Compound elastomer-based coatings, in‑mould coating systems, and related materials following established formulations or development guidelines.
- Support development of new and modified coating formulations by preparing batches and conducting screening tests under direction from senior technical staff.
- Apply coatings using pad bath, spray, knife‑over‑roll, gravure, or other appropriate laboratory application methods.
- Test coated, cured, or moulded substrates for physical, mechanical, and chemical performance to meet internal, customer, or industry specifications.
- Assist with preparation of samples and prototypes for customer evaluations and Technical Sales requests.
- Document all compounding, testing, and application data accurately and maintain organized project files.
- Participate in scale‑up activities for new and modified formulations, supporting Manufacturing as needed during pilot or production trials.
- Troubleshoot formulation or processing issues under guidance from senior chemists or supervisors.
- Maintain inventory of raw materials, lab supplies, and equipment needed for compounding activities.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe workspace and follow all established laboratory safety guidelines.
- Communicate test results, observations, and recommendations to supervisors, Technical Sales, and R&D teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or related field; or relevant experience in industrial compounding or coatings.
- 1–3 years of experience in formulation, compounding, coatings, elastomers, polymers, or in‑mould systems preferred.
- Hands‑on experience preparing lab batches, operating application equipment, or conducting performance testing is highly desirable.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures, maintain documentation, and manage workflow independently with moderate supervision.
- Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to perform basic calculations related to compounding, weights, measurements, and data recording.
Computer Skills- Basic computer proficiency required
- SAP experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
