Shift: Full-Time | Night Shift
Schedule: 3×12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM) | Rotating Weekends

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) - Charge Nurse functions under the direction of the Nurse Manager and assumes responsibility for clinical operations of the hospital during assigned shifts. In collaboration with nursing leadership, the Charge Nurse ensures the delivery of safe, high‑quality patient care while supporting staff, coordinating workflow, and maintaining compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

The Charge Nurse serves as the first line of clinical support for staff, physicians, and other providers, providing leadership, prioritization, and direction to meet the operational and clinical demands of the hospital.

Essential Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Operations
  • Oversees daily clinical operations and ensures continuity of care across all departments
  • Serves as the primary clinical resource for staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff during assigned shifts
  • Assesses unit needs and prioritizes staffing assignments and patient care activities
  • Coordinates admissions, patient flow, and room placement
  • Communicates significant events, concerns, and unusual occurrences to leadership
Patient Care & Safety
  • Ensures delivery of safe, effective, and patient‑centered care
  • Monitors and evaluates patient care activities to reduce risk and prevent errors
  • May provide direct patient care as needed based on unit demands
  • Ensures accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in medical records
  • Promotes adherence to rehabilitation nursing philosophy and best practices
Quality & Compliance
  • Ensures compliance with nursing scope of practice, hospital policies, and HIPAA regulations
  • Oversees completion and accuracy of Interdisciplinary Care Plans
  • Supports Quality Indicator (QI) processes, ensuring timely and accurate assessments
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives and outcome monitoring
  • Reinforces adherence to accreditation and regulatory standards
Staff Support & Development
  • Supports staff development, education, and competency validation
  • Promotes a positive, professional work environment
  • Assists with employee relations, communication, and conflict resolution
  • Encourages professional growth, including specialty certifications (e.g., CRRN)
  • Ensures staff participation in team conferences and required training
Operational & Administrative Duties
  • Manages staffing plans, scheduling, and nursing hours per patient day
  • Monitors productivity, overtime, and agency utilization
  • Ensures accurate and timely patient charge entry
  • Assists leadership with departmental goals, budgets, and special projects
Qualifications
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse (RN) program
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Experience
  • Minimum of two years of experience in rehabilitation or acute care setting required
  • Previous leadership or charge nurse experience preferred
Licensure
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse
Certifications
  • CPR/BLS certification required
  • Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) preferred

  • Strong leadership, clinical judgment, and decision‑making skills
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct clinical activities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
