About This Position
Street Maintenance Worker – full-time, Monday‑Friday 7:00 AM–3:30 PM at 105‑A Upchurch Street, Apex, NC 27502.
Pay range: $42,411.20 – $51,958.40.
What You Will Be DoingResponsible for installing, constructing, repairing, and maintaining streets, sidewalks, curbs, and stormwater infrastructure. Operates a variety of construction equipment and tools to build, repair, and replace sections of streets, sidewalks, curbs, and storm drainage systems; repairs asphalt and concrete; remits snow and ice; controls traffic; performs median clean‑up; documents work with GPS and smartphone applications. Works under regular supervision with no supervisory responsibilities.
Essentials- Works as part of a crew to perform semi‑skilled and skilled trades work.
- Operates construction equipment such as tractor‑trailer combinations, dump trucks, snowplows, gravel/salt delivery trucks, backhoes, excavators, motor graders, front‑end loaders, asphalt rollers, street sweepers, etc.
- Repairs asphalt and concrete with various materials including aggregates, hot mix asphalt, cold mix asphalt, and concrete; may assist with street sign installation.
- Assists with traffic control set‑up and ensures safe traffic directions.
- Clears storm drains and maintains stormwater conveyance infrastructure.
- Applies rock salt/salt brine and performs snow and ice removal from town streets and sidewalks.
- Installs new and refurbishes street markings, stop bars, guardrails (energy absorption systems).
- Performs median clean‑up and cemetery beautification and maintenance.
- Uses hand tools to dig holes and replace paving areas.
- Safely transports equipment and materials to and from work sites per local and state laws.
- Conducts operator's preventative checks and minor preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- Uses smartphone applications and GPS for documentation and mapping of infrastructure.
- Responds as essential field personnel during emergency and inclement weather situations.
- Attends safety training and technical training related to the work.
- Assists with set‑up and clean‑up for town‑sponsored festivals and events.
- May assist with cutting grass and maintaining sight distance using tractors, bush hogs, mowers, weed‑eating, trimming bushes and trees.
- Performs related tasks as required.
High School Diploma or GED and minimal (less than one year) experience in semi‑skilled maintenance or construction work.
Possession of a valid Class B commercial driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina, or the ability to obtain within six months of hire.
