Plumber – Rough-In

This role leads and performs plumbing installations during the rough-in phase for new construction and custom homes, while supporting full-cycle plumbing work. You supervise crews, interpret blueprints, install and maintain piping systems and fixtures, and ensure all work meets applicable plumbing codes, safety standards, and quality expectations. You work hands-on in the field, coordinating closely with project managers, contractors, and other trades to keep projects on schedule and within scope.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise plumbing crews performing rough-in installations on new construction and custom home projects.
  • Plan and execute rough-in plumbing layouts based on blueprints, construction drawings, and project specifications.
  • Install, repair, and maintain piping systems and plumbing fixtures using materials such as cast iron, PVC, copper, and PEX.
  • Perform hands-on tasks including installing cast iron and PVC piping, soldering copper, and running PEX lines to support full-cycle plumbing work.
  • Ensure all plumbing work complies with relevant plumbing codes, safety regulations, and internal quality standards.
  • Coordinate daily activities with project managers, contractors, and other trades to align schedules and resolve conflicts.
  • Schedule daily work, assign tasks to crew members, and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of milestones.
  • Troubleshoot plumbing issues and resolve jobsite challenges quickly to minimize delays and rework.
  • Use hand tools and related equipment safely and effectively for installation, repair, and maintenance activities.
  • Order materials, track usage, and maintain proper inventory levels to support ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Verify that installed systems are properly tested, inspected, and ready for subsequent construction phases.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area on each jobsite and promote safe work practices among the crew.

Essential Skills

  • 3–5+ years of plumbing experience, including rough-in work in new construction or similar environments.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, components, and applicable plumbing codes.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and project specifications.
  • Leadership experience overseeing or guiding plumbing crews or helpers, even on an informal basis.
  • Demonstrated skill in installing cast iron, PVC, and PEX piping systems in residential or similar settings.
  • Proficiency in soldering copper piping and making reliable, code-compliant connections.
  • Ability to install, repair, and maintain piping systems and fixtures with a high level of accuracy and quality.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to various jobsites as required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for diagnosing and resolving plumbing and jobsite issues.
  • Effective organization and time management skills to plan work, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • High attention to detail to ensure precise measurements, accurate installations, and code compliance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate clearly with crew members and other trades.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience leading plumbing rough-in work on custom homes or similar high-specification projects.
  • Hands-on experience with new construction plumbing installations from rough-in through final connections.
  • Comfort using a variety of hand tools and related equipment commonly used in plumbing and conduit installation.
  • Familiarity with coordinating plumbing work with other trades such as electrical and HVAC to avoid conflicts.
  • Strong teamwork mindset with the ability to mentor less experienced plumbers or apprentices.
  • Commitment to safety and quality, with a track record of delivering work that passes inspections and meets standards.
  • Qualification as a plumber, with relevant field experience supporting full-cycle plumbing work.
