SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 7am-5:30pm (4day/10hour schedule)

Work is performed within the Town of Apex and there is no traveling involved unless it's for special training or on a volunteer basis in weather related emergencies. On call and special project work is available after normal hours.

The following are the salary ranges for the various levels of Electric Line Technicians:
Electric Line Technician Apprentice Salary Range: $51,910.35 - $63,607.86 annually
Electric Line Technician I Salary Range:$61,679.70-$75,562.45 annually
Electric Line Technician II Salary Range: $73,291.50- $89,766.56 annually
Electric Line Technician lll Salary Range: $79,868.67- $97,843.41 annually
Electric Line Journeyman Salary Range: $87,474. annually
Hiring managers will consider appointing the right candidate to an Apprentice position if incumbent does not meet minimum requirements, but desires to obtain promotions through participation in a Lineman Career Development Program.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT:Town of Apex Electric Line Technicians perform basic level technical work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of underground and overhead lines in the Town's electrical distribution system. Employees are expected to possess a basic working knowledge of standardized techniques and practices utilized in power line construction, maintenance, and repair. Judgment is utilized in following the direction of the lead worker, determining the most appropriate work methods, and observing safety standards.
Work requires frequent on-call and callback responsibilities. The employee is subject to hazards associated with electric power in both inside and outside environments, and working in extreme heat and freezing weather. Exposure to various hazards such as working at heights, loud noises, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, confined spaces, poor ventilation, and oils.
Work is performed under the supervision of a lead worker and the overall supervision of the assigned supervisor. Performance is reviewed in progress and judged upon completion for conformance to accepted work practice standards.
- Participates in the installation and alignment of power line poles, stringing primary and secondary lines, and attaching wire to insulators and cross arms. Installs, repairs, and replaces cross arms, supports, insulators, lightning arrestors, and fuse cutouts.
- Participates in the installation, construction, and repair of underground electrical systems by installing primary cables, secondary cables, and transformers.
- Assists others in locating trouble spots in the cable span, using fault finding test equipment, and takes necessary measures to excavate and correct problems. Determines whether equipment, such as a transformer, is faulty and replaces it.
- Operates bucket equipment to ascend to high wires, participates in making energized linetaps, and connecting wires; handles energized aspects of the system as directed by the lead worker.
- Trims and disposes of tree limbs using a bucket truck, chain saw, trimmers, chipper, and other equipment, such as safety equipment, not mentioned; participates in tree trimming, chipping, and clean up.
- Assists in the transfer of wire and power lines from old poles to new poles, and the installation of metering equipment.
- Assists in the investigation of complaints regarding power failures, and helps with the necessary repairs; participates in making emergency repairs during electric power outages.
- Position involves running underground services using backhoes and trenchers.
- Attends training to upgrade and maintain skills.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Journeyman level may supervise other electric line technicians either in the absence of the Field Supervisor or on an on-going basis as operator of the field services vehicle.
