Plumbing Superintendent
VMG Mechanical, a Modigent Company
Job Summary
VMG Mechanical, a Modigent company and a trusted leader in commercial plumbing, is seeking an experienced Plumbing Superintendent to lead ground-up commercial plumbing projects from start to finish. Reporting directly to the General Superintendent, you will manage teams of foremen and plumbers, oversee on-site operations, ensure exceptional quality and safety, and drive profitable, on-time delivery for clients in commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors.
This role requires proven expertise in ground-up new construction plumbing, strong leadership, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution
- Lead and manage foremen, plumbers, and subcontractors on ground-up commercial plumbing projects, ensuring alignment with company goals, budgets, and timelines.
- Develop proactive solutions to prevent issues; conduct thorough material takeoffs, site surveys, and detailed planning.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily on-site activities, including crew scheduling, material control, equipment rentals, and field supervision.
- Review projects with leadership post-procurement; interpret blueprints, coordinate with engineers, subcontractors, and owners for seamless execution.
- Ensure timely procurement, coordinate production scheduling with the shop, and manage material deliveries.
- Oversee job start-ups, inspections, testing, and commissioning; verify complete documentation (e.g., start-up sheets, warranties).
- Maintain and exceed industry standards for commercial plumbing installations in ground-up construction.
- Perform regular quality assurance checks, conduct site walks with clients, and analyze work to minimize callbacks or warranty issues.
- Proactively build and maintain long-term relationships with clients, subcontractors, and the broader construction team through clear, collaborative communication.
- Strictly enforce company, project-specific, and OSHA safety requirements; ensure all personnel wear required PPE at all times.
- Document incidents, recommend and implement corrective actions, and coordinate with safety officers for regular job site visits and inspections.
- Promote a zero-incident culture on fast-paced commercial construction sites.
- Track employee performance and progress, nominate team members for promotions or incentives, and assist with interviewing and hiring decisions.
- Approve and submit accurate weekly time records; ensure proper documentation of all work activities and progress.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in commercial plumbing, with a strong emphasis on ground-up new construction (e.g., full system installations, underground utilities, rough-in/top-out, fixture setting in commercial buildings).
- Proven track record leading plumbing teams on large-scale commercial projects (government, municipal, healthcare, or institutional experience a plus).
- Excellent leadership, written/verbal communication, and multitasking skills; self-motivated with strong follow-through and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, performing takeoffs, project scheduling, and managing subcontractors.
- In-depth knowledge of plumbing codes (e.g., IPC/Florida Building Code), safety regulations, and quality standards.
- Professional appearance, punctuality, reliability, and ability to work in physically demanding environments.
- Valid driver's license required; relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, plumbing license/journeyman/master status) preferred.
- Ability to travel to job sites as needed.
