The Role:As the Director Clinical Laboratory, you will be responsible for all operational, strategic, and quality functions within the Clinical Laboratory, Pathology Services, and Blood Bank. In partnership with St. Mary Medical Center’s administration, you will ensure the consistent delivery of high‑quality, accurate, and timely laboratory services for all practitioners and patients who rely on them.
In this role, you will support clinicians across the continuum of care—including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients—by ensuring your team demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and developmental competencies required for the diverse population served. Your leadership will directly influence the safety, reliability, and excellence of diagnostic services across St. Mary Medical Center.
What You'll Do:- Operational Leader
- Direct the laboratory team in the delivery of comprehensive diagnostic services and maintain strong working relationships that support seamless care across departments.
- Strategic Planner
- Participate in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental objectives to advance service quality and operational performance.
- Regulatory Champion
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulatory standards, policies, and procedures governing laboratory operations.
- Fiscal Steward
- Develop, oversee, and manage operating and capital budgets to support current needs and future growth.
- Systems Expert
- Maintain and optimize the laboratory information system to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with clinical needs.
- Collaborative Partner
- Actively participate in St. Mary Medical Center’s committees and initiatives that support systemwide improvement and clinical excellence.
- Quality Innovator
- Provide leadership in designing and driving performance improvement initiatives focused on quality patient care, optimal resource utilization, and effective integration with departments across the hospital.
- Education :
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology required;
Master’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent education/experience preferred - Licensure
- California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License upon hire (Vendor Managed)
- Experience
- 5 years of experience in an acute care facility
- 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience
- Leadership Competencies
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, and planning capabilities
- Proficiency with computer systems and laboratory technologies
