The MEP Estimator II is responsible for developing accurate and comprehensive material takeoffs, cost estimates, and supporting documentation for a variety of project types and construction phases for mechanical and plumbing systems. With minimal project oversight, the role utilizes estimating and modeling software at a proficient level to produce material lists, engineering calculations, cost analyses, and bid-ready documentation for complex water and industrial process systems.
Estimators are accountable for quality control across assigned projects, providing technical guidance to team members, and ensuring estimates meet industry standards, GF quality expectations, and project timelines.
This role plays a critical part in the pre-construction phase by delivering accurate, competitive estimates while supporting internal teams and customers throughout the project lifecycle. The position is considered a hybrid role with periodic onsite work at our headquarters in Apple Valley, Minnesota; U.S.
-based candidates may also be considered for a fully remote arrangement.
- Develop detailed material takeoffs and cost estimates for commercial, industrial, and infrastructure piping systems with minimal oversight.
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, P&IDs, PFDs, isometrics, and 3D models to quantify piping materials, valves, fittings, supports, insulation, and specialty components.
- Perform engineering-based calculations related to pipe sizing, system layouts, and constructability.
- Estimate labor, equipment, installation, and indirect costs based on project scope.
- Contribute to proposal and bid package development, including scope definitions, assumptions, clarifications, and material buy lists.
- Provide professional support to internal and external customers regarding designs, estimates, materials, products, schedules, and project-specific questions.
- Support post-bid activities by assisting with final material lists and handoff documentation.
- Review estimates and documentation produced by team members to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GF and industry standards.
- Support team members with all aspects of the estimating process.
- Identify project risks, constructability challenges, and value-engineering opportunities during the estimating phase.
- Support continuous improvement by sharing best practices, lessons learned, and process efficiencies.
Maintain all required documentation in accordance with GF quality and record-keeping standards. Demonstrate strong organizational skills, punctuality, and active participation in team meetings, training sessions, and team initiatives. Pursue continuous learning and proactive involvement in business and industry initiatives to expand technical knowledge across commercial, industrial, and infrastructure piping systems. Proactively work with leadership to support personal development, career growth, and broader business initiatives.
Requirements- AA degree (or equivalent) in construction management, engineering, architecture, drafting, or MEP systems; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2+ years of trade design experience and 4+ years of AutoCAD, Revit, or estimation software experience.
- Experience with Trimble Autobid Mechanical preferred.
- Familiarity with Auto Desk software (AutoCAD and Revit), Microsoft Operating Systems, and Microsoft Office platforms.
- Knowledge of estimating techniques, commercial or industrial piping systems, construction methods, building materials, pipe sizing, and model codes.
